This is my backyard koi pond.Its about 1000 gallons. All the koi were raised from small ones. as you can see they make wonderful pets.

We had lots of Koi in our pond.. untill we woke up one morning to find most of the fish bitten in half laying at the side of the pond. We had a problem with a heron at first. But then realised that a heron doesn’t bite fish in half and usually swallows them hole. We then found that it was an Otter that got in to the pond and ate most fish and killed the others.

@ryno212121 Good solution to herons is a heron decoy. Sounds funny like you would be attracting them but it works just the opposite. Herons wont land near other herons, it’s like stealing each others hunting grounds. I’ve had mine for over a year now on a large pond and haven’t seen one since. I just have his head sticking out of the reeds. You can find one online or one of the big box hunting stores. I found mine at a outlet store at a plastic factory that made decoys, $18 I think?
i had over $2000 in koi, then one night a blue heron came down and ate some of them…i then cleaned the pond but it was too late…the rest of them died later in the month, everything was going perfect too :(
@Maciek1 koi dont eat goldfish i got big koi and small goldfish and there fine
i wish i could have koi but it would probably ate my goldfishes bacouse of their size , i wont risk i think :(

@MyTvThesesdays the waterfall is mainly for looks but also to oxygenate the water for the fish. if you have alot of oxygenating plants in your pond then you can turn it off for a little if you are really worried about electricity.

Beautiful koi. I like the urn for the water return. I only have goldfish in my pond, haven’t been brave enough to try koi because I keep hearing that they are more delicate. My goldfish do eat out of my hand, too, though they are not as impressive in size or color variety I have to admit.
I love this pond. You’re right, it’s 2011, and I enjoy the beauty of your pond. I hope to have one someday!

@ daerobest1 he probably has either a filter or a uv filter . I have a uv and a regular filter and mine never goes green
