What special tools are needed to to cut a steel patio door?
I have a steel patio door going to my deck. It is a 64" X 20" full light opening. A friend of mine gave me a 64" X 22" insert containing blinds built into the window. What power tools do I need to cut the steel other than a hacksaw?

i wouldn't cut it...
as soon as you cut the steel patio door, which by the way would be very heavy, they're usually constructed from aluminum, you will weaken the door..

A sawzall, or reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade, or else a 4 1/2″ grinder with a metal cutting blade. Mark both sides before cutting. Cut one side at a time, not the whole door at once.

cutting the door to width is not a good idea.it will weaken it structurally.height can be cut sometime but not width.just can the door ,pull the greenbacks out of your pocket and go buy the right one.

the first thing you need is eye protection..get some good goggles

a circular saw with a metal blade works good

like one poster said do 1 side at a time,, to do this drill holes at the corners of the new space,,this will show both sides

after the metal is cut ,,usually the filler is foam,,cut with a sheetrock saw or anything you have
