The Slider House, now open and slinging sliders in Midtown, is hosting a Burgers for Blues charity event at 2 p.m., July 5, 2013 benefitting Nashvilles Officer Down Foundation and Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The event will feature a slider eating contest between local police officers and firefighters. The team to eat the most sliders in 15 minutes will be crowned the winner.

The teams of six will compete against each other to raise funds for both foundations with $ 1,500 donated to the winning team and $ 500 to the runner up. In addition to the generous donations by supporting companies including Provence Breads and US Foods, the public is encouraged to come cheer on their local heroes and donate to both foundations.

We are happy to host this event to show our support to our local police and firefighters and to officially introduce ourselves to the community, said Dave Wachtel, President of the Slider House and Soulshine Restaurants. We hope the event will not only raise funds for both foundations, but also raise awareness and become an annual Thank You to the men and women in blue who serve us all so selflessly. Were honored to serve them with this fun event.

The missions of the Officer Down and Fallen Firefighters Foundations is to provide financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line-of-duty and to provide resources to enhance their safety and welfare.

The Burgers for Blues event is just one example of The Slider Houses charitable ventures and commitment to its community. The restaurant also donates all proceeds from its beer can recycling to the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee.
